What even is a Tax Collector?
A Tax Collector isn’t just an official—they are your neighbor, your advocate, and the person ensuring your tax dollars are managed responsibly. Elected to collect real estate taxes for the municipality, county, and school district, a tax collector’s duties include collecting payments, managing funds, and keeping accurate records. This role is vital to making sure your money is handled efficiently and fairly.

In Pennsylvania, all tax collectors must complete a basic training exam and earn two continuing education credit hours per term. Beyond the requirements, a tax collector must know how to connect with constituents and manage funds responsibly. I’ve had the opportunity to train with the current tax collector on several occasions, to make sure I was completely prepared for the role of Hempfield Tax Collector. I'm confident that I've learned firsthand about the challenges and responsibilities of this office. Hempfield is a large and complex township, and I want to make sure any transition is seamless, with as little disruption to the business of the township as possible.
